Drawaholic: Musical Inspiration - Beatles

i've been falling a little behind on the DRAWAHOLICS blog, but i'm starting to play catch up now. here's my musical inspiration. i was originally going to redo the Let it Be album cover in the fashion of Gorillaz' Demon Days, but ended up just turning in to a profile line up ;P

American Carny (Drawaholic: Carnies)

so i actually wrangled up some time to paint up last week's carny sketch for the DRAWAHOLICS blog. it's been a good long while since i've attempted to go this extensive with the painting. it feels good to get my digital brush wet again ;P - i decided to keep it black and white, give it a more era-appropriate feel (and man is it nice only worrying about tone and not having to deal with that whole, COLOR thing, haha)

i definitely won't be taking all the submissions this far, but hopefully i can keep it up with a few of 'em..

oh and yes, this was based on the classic painting American Gothic

Official Mermaid Concept Art

a few weeks ago Entertainment Weekly released some concept art for one of the mermaids in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Here's the scan of Syrena from the magazine. These mermaids have been incredibly fun and challenging to work on, and I can't wait to see everything finished and on the big screen!

Drawaholic: My Pet Monster v.2

i'm pretty surprised that i was able to find the time, or even motivation, to get it colored up this week - but i did it! so here's my same pet monster with a lil' color treatment! off to a good start this week.

(don't worry mullins, your designs are still on the way, i promise)

on a side note, i doodled this up on my new toy - the asus eee slate ep121 - first tablet to have a legitimate wacom digitizer (to my knowledge)! it.is.soooo.nice :3

Pirates Super Bowl Spot

the new trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Kitty Galore earns a VES Nomination!

Tippett's work on Kitty Galore for Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore earned a nomination in the Visual Effects Society for Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture. I'm so happy that they're able to acknowledge the great work done by the studio on this character (regardless of the film's overall reception)! Way to go!

one of my shots ^ :D

ILM

first day at ILM! i'm incredibly excited and nervous at the same time. and while a large part of me is very sad to leave Tippett, i'm very much looking forward to this new experience!

employee #274110

one of my supervisors from Tippett, Jim Brown (AWESOME animator, and just a super-swell guy), did me the honor of including me in his awesome 'drawing a day' series on his blog:

click me, right here!!

he made a resolution for 2010 to do a drawing every single day of the year, and he actually finished it! not something many people can say! check. it. out.

Tippett Secret Santa 2010

this year my victim for secret santa wasn't quite as easy to approach (the fact that i did not know him personally, like last year, meant that i probably shouldn't poke fun at his cultural heritage or physical attributes). and the only detail that i was able to get a firm grasp on was their self-proclaimed status of "geek for philosophy"; hence, socrates and philosoraptor.

Season of the Witch

we just recently finished working on Season of the Witch, at Tippett Studio, and the new trailer has just hit the web. check it out here, if you're aching for some nic cage action:

Drawaholic - Platypus

so i've completely fallen off the 'drawaholics' wagon, unfortunately - but this week's animal is the platypus, which is one of my favorites, and amazingly enough to get me back on the tail end of that runaway wagon and take a crack at it! yay!

New Blog URL

just a heads up!

i'm eventually going to be giving my blog a bit of a face lift, and the first small step is changing the URL. i've actually never cared for 'louieville-art' that was just based off my old website, in which i chose the name because 'louieville' was already taken. but, i do like my blog's header "welcome to louieville", so i'll be changing to that.

so if you follow, or subsribe (i know there's probably only one person, in a dark, wet corner - and they probably don't even check up on it :P) you'll want to update your link to:

welcometolouieville.blogspot.com

i'll give it a week or so..

Purrcasso 2010

my entry for this year's Purrcasso Charity Auction - 'Waiting for Papa'

Purrcasso is a charity art & craft gala done for the Berkeley East-Bay Humane Society - loads of great local artists donate pieces to be auctioned off in order to help out the animals. here is a link to the site if you want more info, and are interested in stopping by!
